May 4 ... I Chronicles 9 - 11 "His Embrace Became Larger"

I Chronicles 11:9 - "David's stride became longer, his embrace larger—yes, God-of-the-Angel-Armies was with him!"  Oh for more life in our steps; oh for a larger embrace to my suffering and joys.  David's confidence came from the Wall of his God not from his wall of fame.  He didn't place his confidence in all of those mighty men of valor and courage.  David's success was living in dependence on the God-of-the-Angel-Armies.  Saul died in disobedience, depending on his fame to pull him through.  I'm wondering this day in what I've witnessed.  Why is it people want to rub up against those with fame and fortune?  Everybody wants to be their friend.  Wonder why...wonder what they want more than drawing near to God?  If I were a successful author, an accomplished musician, a sought-after speaker, people would be knocking on my door, throwing their weight my way.  Not so with David.  He was a man after God's own heart not after the fame of this world.  So..."when you feel empty tomorrow, when life's troubles and disappointments continue, you will again be tempted to devote more energy to making your life better than to drawing closer to Me.  It is not easy to practie the priorty of rebuilding the Temple over rebuilding your Life.  And it's difficult even to know when you're violating it."  May we have eyes to see more clearly and ears wide open this very day.

  1. Here's a quote from C.S. Lewis about the friendship we have found here on this blog (he just didn't realize he was writing it to us today).
"Friendship is born at the moment when one person says to another:

'What, you too, I thought I was the only one.' "

I have found such solace in your words, your kindness, your love. What's solace?? You make me want to love and follow Him and deal with the fray of my heart so much more! My Love to each of you today. My Gratitude for all you are to me!

  2. So true!

(1Chron. 11) I may never measure up in certain areas of man's making, but in Christ, I always "measure-up". I am clothed with strength and dignity (Pro. 31:25).

  3. You are so sweet, Bev! I love the quote from C.S. Lewis, too! :) I've been missing a lot, but come by from time to time. I've been busy with work and it seems hard to pick right back up here.

I'm working out some "stuff" in this stubborn, selfish, sinful brain of mine. Your prayers would be greatly appreciated.

I hope you guys are all doing well. Wish I could spend the day catching up with everyone!
    Much love to you...
    Angie xoxo

  4. His quote is so true, and then you add the bond of Jesus and it's a wonderful thing, one of the most blessed things in the world. My heart's cry it right along with yours and Larry Crabb's...may I desire Him more than what my heart and flesh want....the flesh is oh, so weak. Praying for you to be completely healed of your infections.....love you...

  5. Great quote on friendship, Bev. Very true. I was with a new group of women last night, and it seemed like that was our experience. It was VERY refreshing!

Thankfully, my struggles are primarily internal these days, not circumstantial. So much wrestling with God about all that I read and experience. I feel very unsettled most days, and I can't pinpoint exactly why. I just feel out-of-sorts and scattered.

"It is not easy to practice the priority of rebuilding the Temple over rebuilding your life. And it's difficult even to know when you're violating it."

Some of this stuff is so overwhelming, like drinking from a firehouse. I'm overwhelmed with my own sin and selfishness, and I can't make sense of everything that I'm seeing and hearing. Just trying to take things moment by moment.

I agree with your last sentence, Bev - "May I have eyes to see more clearly and ears wide open this very day."

  7. BB,

Imagining the women who followed Christ, who supported him, who stuck with him even at the cross. The men were there, but I'm considering Mary Magdalene, and the other Mary, and the other Mary, and the mother, Mary. Poor, rich, sinner, saint, old, young...each one with one thing in common...

    just like us!

I love that quote! And the passage FG left us yesterday. So encouraging.

David hitting his stride with God. Some days, I feel that way. Other days, facedown.

Praying that our joy might be full.

  8. The uncommon golden thread of friendships in Christ is a sweet benefit of being in His Word together. Many miles separate us but our hearts are linked. Love you all, A
