March 1 ... Deuteronomy 5 - 7 "Write commands on Your Heart"

Deuteronomy 6:6 - The Secret of Parenting!  Write His commands on your heart!  Not on your mind!  Get them inside of you.  So how do we do that?  So many Bible teachers focus on knowledge which puffs up---but Love changes everything. Deuteronomy 7:7 - It's all because of Love.  God didn't choose you because your are important.  No He chose you out of His Love.  Don't ever forget how you got to the place where you are today (6:12).  All because of Love.  So what does holiness look like in my situation this day and what does it mean for me to write His commands on my heart?

  1. Sorry about the delay in getting up the posts over the weekend---I was out-of-town without internet access. Missed you all! Today is Julie's celebration service and burial. Brookie will be there. Pray for Mark and his children---their children are Addy and Major. Mark is called by God to pastor this awesome church...and the Great Shepherd is watching over him this heart-wrenching difficult day and all the days of his life! He will honor Him!

  2. A Thousand Thanks Annette for touching the lives of some college students this weekend who think you just hung the moon with your kindnesses toward them all! They were blown away by you and Mike! Couldn't believe it! They'll remember this weekend!!!

  3. I can't imagine telling two children their mother isn't going to be there to see them grow up. They remain in my prayers.

So glad they would stay a distance away from the conference. I can't wait to hear about the details and Kelly Matte's talk! More on the Scriptures tomorrow a.m. I'm off to bed after a very long dinner.

  4. "sheer love"...

This is going to be a week that I'll want to remember to listen to Him personally and not veer off to the left or the right.

    Have a great week!
    I "treasure" you all!
    Love,
    Angie

  5. So much of today's reading spoke to me. Most especially these verses from Chspter 5:

2 -5 God, our God, made a covenant with us at Horeb. God didn't just make this covenant with our parents; he made it also with us, with all of us who are alive right now. God spoke to you personally out of the fire on the mountain. At the time I stood between God and you, to tell you what God said. You were afraid, remember, of the fire and wouldn't climb the mountain.

I am so thankful through Jssus Christ, we can approach God.

  6. Whew! If only I could carry around a little copy of this day's readings in my mind. Maybe that's why He said inscribe it on your door posts, inscribe it on your hearts. With it comes the promise that if only we'd keep His rules, how much better our lives would be.

And I almost missed the Shema, in Message style, Deut. 6:4:
"Attention, Israel! God, our God! God the one and only!"

May we "never forget how we got here", slaves to sin, freed by the Hand of God through the beautiful gift of His beloved Son's atoning Sacrifice...and love Him with "all we've got."

  7. I think we too often forget how we got here and what it cost Him for our freedom. Our flesh is way too prone to wander. So thankful He pulls us back and draws us back. What a great and awesome God.

  8. Definitely a rich bit of reading today. I love the rendering of Deut. 6:5,6 in this version - "Write these commandments that I've given you today on your hearts. Get them inside of you and them get them inside your children." I want to get God's commandments inside of me so that the most instinctive thing to do is to obey.

One other verse really stuck out to me today. In chapter 7 verse 16, he tells the people to "make mincement" of the people that God hands over to them. And then he says, "Don't feel sorry for them." I need to remember this as I try to 'help' others. How often do I get in the way of what God is doing in their lives because I feel sorry for them and want to help???

The Israelites were instruments of God's judgment of these pagan people. I must stop being an amateur providence, as Oswald Chambers says, in others' lives and quit feeling sorry for them. My role is to love God and love others with all I've got.

  9. So very sorry about Julie. I know this will hurt their hearts and life will never be the same.

Lord, I pray that Mark, Addy and Major will just recline into You and trust in You with all their heart, leaning not to their own understanding. May they acknowledge You in all their ways as You direct their paths. You are their God. Be powerful in all their needs. In Jesus Name. Amen.

These chapters are some of the most powerful chapters in the whole Bible. I read to pick out the one thing that spoke most to me. All of it does. It is my lifeline!

I'm having a bit of a sad evening. I'm ready for time to just draw into my Good God and let Him heal some hurts. I want to be holy. To choose love. Sometimes it's very hard.

This little passage at the end of Deut. 7:10 just ministers to me so much today. Not in a spirit of revenge...just in a spirit of justice. I need some justice today.

"those who hate him, he pays right on time."

I am not perfect. But I am seeking to be perfected in Christ. There are those who mock Him today. Who turn their backs on Him. Who would lash Him with a cat-o'-nine-tails if given the opportunity...and sell tickets for others to come and watch.

He is so precious to me.

Right now, it comforts me to know that he will repay evil RIGHT ON TIME. I need to hear that today. I'm battling a GIANT. My arms get tired from fighting. I have to believe that God sees my battle...that He wants me to stand and battle the enemy to our souls...and that HE will give Victory over this enemy and it will come RIGHT ON TIME.

I love this March month where we see Israel marching through and cleaning house. I liked the visual that they would have fruit that they did not plant. It is time for some battle weary, sore-footed people of God to receive their homes and their promises.

He is GOD, our God. Yes, He is.

I've posted some of my thoughts on my blog...Love Letters From My Lord. Bev, we missed you and are glad everything is okay with you.
Ladies, it is sheer joy taking time together to read and share about God's Word. It is changing me.

  11. The first verse in ch. 5 of The Message...listen, learn, live.
The listening and learning won't mean anything if I'm not living it.

Ch.6:23 (NKJV) He brought us out to bring us in.

Ch.6:24 (NKJV) We are commanded to observe the statues...for our GOOD
    always.

Ch.7:6 (NKJV) We are holy, chosen and a people for Himself, a special treasure above all the peoples...

Twinkle, I read about your finds yesterday. I love the Mitford series, Peter Rabbit and books!
It sounded like my kind of day.

I pray God will comfort you and give you a real sense of His presence during this season of your life.

  12. Thank you.

"I cry out to God Most High,
to God who fulfills His purpose in me." Psalm 57:2.

Dr. Crabb has reminded me tonight that there is no Plan B.

I know I'm on the right path.

    Trusting God.
