February 5 ... Leviticus 14 - 15 "Infected with Holiness"

Leviticus 14:33 - "I put a serious fungus in your house..."  God said that to Moses!  You know, I believe that He only does us good and there is nothing allowed except to achieve our utmost benefit. When is the last time the sun didn't dawn or set at the right time? When was the last time God refused to be good to me? Jer 33:20.  But my definition of "good" and God's definition isn't the same.  Reading about fungi and infections and discharges that He allowed or maybe even initiated is hard to understand.  God wasn't infecting them with harm.  He was all about infecting them with holiness. And He is after that in my life.  I spent another day thinking how to improve my situation.  Oh my soul!  Find Rest in Him alone!  Forget about my plans and find His!  How can I put Him first in my thoughts and reveal His character this day?  There's a story that Kierkegaard tells:  He compares someone who learns God's Truth but isn't gripped by it.  A few of my friends/family come to mind.  They aren't GRIPPED by truth like you guys are.   Kierkegaard says that when you aren't gripped by truth, you build a great castle and live in the adjoining shack. "A person's ideas must be the building he lives in----otherwise there is something terribly wrong."

  1. I did a double-take on the word "I" in that verse (Lev 14:33) too. He didn't have to do any of that, but like you said, it is all about His holiness. These specific details would have given me a major headache if I were Moses. How could they possibly remember everything?

"You are responsible for keeping the People of Israel separate from that which makes them ritually unclean, lest they die in their unclean condition by defiling my Dwelling which is among them." (Lev 15:31). Now THAT'S A LOT of responsibility on Moses and Aaron!

My new boss is trying to communicate with 6 different dental hygienists who all work different days to get us "all on the same page" and after just a couple weeks is very frustrated. (He has told me the same thing several times.) He can't remember who he told what to. I feel badly for him because he is not going to be able to keep all 6 of us because we just don't have the patient load. He is going to have to be the bad guy. He wants a smaller "team". All of this to say, I have compassion for Moses this morning, for the responsibility put on His shoulders. Whew!

I'm Praising God again for not living way back then!
    Have a great weekend!
    Love, Angie xoxo

  2. Okay, lots of stuff I'd prefer not to read while eating my breakfast this morning.

Bev, I love that quote from Kierkegaard-being GRIPPED by truth. If we don't live this out, what is the point of knowing?

Angie, good example of the monumental responsibility on Moses and Aaron. Thank goodness Moses was trained in Pharoah's house and could write. Even still, for an old man, he had to have a great memory.

    Have a good weekend, everyone!

  3. Not my idea of pleasant reading this morning either - skin diseases, fungi, discharges, and menstrual periods. Hmmm. The whole time I'm thinking, "Why does this really matter anyway, God?"

And then I remember - this is about relating to God on His terms, not mine. He obviously thinks this is important and so should I. It's about Him making me holy.

I also loved the Kierkegaard quote, Bev! Am I truly gripped by the truth???? I want to be but what does that look like in my life? Something to ponder. Other people come to mind as well, and I think that's what frustrates me so much about them. I hear their words yet observe contradictory actions. Perhaps that's what they see in me as well? Again, something to think about today.

Thanks, ladies. You're an amazing blessing to a stay-at-home mom with two littles. You're helping me engage in the Word in a way that I haven't since I've had kids. And I've desperately missed it but couldn't figure out how to make it work. I love the internet! Thank you, Lord, for your provision!

  4. One more thing this morning. As I was in the shower a minute ago, I remembered something standing out in today's reading--God telling them to clean with RUNNING water. (Lev. 15:13) There are so many examples in the Bible of its knowledge being found true many years later by science. This is one of them. Science didn't realize that running water was cleaner until they saw it under the microscope. Just like Isaiah couldn't have known that the earth was round (Is. 40:22) and it wasn't until Columbus (1492), I think, that we knew the earth was not flat.

I guess that just brings me hope this morning that one Day we all will know what God has shown us all along so obviously in His Word.

We want to see Your Glory, Lord.
    Give us eyes to see.
