January 28 ... Exodus 30 - 32 "Aaron let sons run WILD"

Exodus 32:31 - Please forgive the enormous sin of these idolators or ERASE me, says Moses. Timid Moses found places in his heart that became huge for the honor and advancement of God's Kingdom. Aaron let te people run WILD (32:25) while Moses stood up and said: If you are on God's side, join me in taking on the Levites (32:26). "Forgive the sin of those I lead or erase me" --- is that my heart this day? Or, am I committed to my own well-being? God keeps showing me what is in my heart if I will obey HIM --- even if freed from the slavery of Egypt and led into an unsafe wilderness. Not the next chapter the Israelites expected. So they made their own god out of a calf. Wonder what gods we are crafting? We don't have to dig it up, our Holy God will reveal it to us.

  1. "Moses tried to calm his God down. .... Think twice about bringing evil against your people! Think of Abraham, Isaac, and Israel, your servants to whom you gave your word... "And God did think twice" --I like that wording. It sounds funny that Moses would be able to calm God down. I am reminded of the power of prayer!

I love hearing all about the fragrant incense and oil. That's one of the things I miss most about the Catholic church. It does feel Holy in there when I smell the incense!

There's more, but I have to get out the door for work. Have a great day, friends!

  2. Am I aware and on guard for those moments/habits that cause me to revert to sinful behavior?

Thanking God for His mercy today!

  3. "There are six days for work but the seventh day is Sabbath, pure rest, holy to God"

I love reading what spoke to each of us. God is working in many areas of our lives using the very same words.

I am thankful this day that pure Sabbath rest, a much-needed provision, is set apart as holy to God. He knows us too well. We put off things, and Sunday looks like the only time we have to get it done. I remember when I had small children and had only an hour and a half each week without the children. I chose to work in Greg's classroom, and the teacher had me cutting out cute little things for her bulletin board. The only reason I had wanted to volunteer was so Greg could see me there and they weren't even in the classroom at that time. I realized after that commitment, that I was a much better mom when I took a little time off to rest, and I managed my time better and still had time for the rest of my commitments.
Sylvia, you spoke of a rest season God has called you to. It's a sweet place to be still before God for healing, for the refining Fire to shape us.

Angie, isn't that awesome that God would listen and hear Moses!

And Nise'--how quickly we can slip into sin! What an amazing God we serve Who provides mercy for the fallen.

Bev, Moses was sacrificial in his leadership. That caught my heart, also, about his plea before the Lord, "erase me." If only we took the responsibility ourselves for sin, not like Aaron (I threw the gold in the fire and out came this calf)Leadership is a huge responsibility. And idols are everywhere!

Sure love all of your hearts.

  4. I, too, noticed the leadership aspect of these chapters. Moses truly was sacrificing himself on the mountain for the good of the people entrusted to him. Aaron, on the other hand, didn't serve the people well. And Aaron's the one that God gifted with the ability to speak well, not Moses! It's amazing how the brothers can have the same experiences yet respond to God so differently.

Aaron had seen all that God had done (up close!) yet in short order, he just let the people run wild. When confronted about it by Moses, he acted like he didn't really do anything wrong. "They took off their jewelry and gave it to me. I threw it in the fire and out came this calf." The earlier verse said that Aaron "cast it in the form of a calf, shaping it with an engraving tool." A little different from, "out came this calf" huh??

Thank you, Lord, for the conviction of sin. As a leader, I know that I have sinned and made excuses for wrong actions. I am so grateful for your mercy and cleansing.

  5. Ladies, What beautiful insight you have brought to the reading of the Word of God. You encourage me each and every day, and for that I am so very thankful.
