Sin must be put away from our hearts.

Break up that fallow fallen ground.
The Cross.
Jeremiah deals with the heart not with the outward behavior that we so often correct in ourselves, our spouses, our children. "Circumcise yourselves and remove the foreskins of your heart." Beautiful metaphor. If our hearts are proud, they are fallow ground. "Break up your fallow ground; for it is time to seek the LORD, til He come and rain righteousness upon us." Hosea 10:12. "Like cages full of birds, their houses are full of deceit----they have become rich and powerful. Do we deal with our hearts only because it is pleasant, it is right? What about when those blessings aren't pouring in? Break up your fallow fickle false demented demanding dried up ground. Only God can give us a new heart, a clean heart. But we must live by spiritual convictions or else we profane the moment. This next thought, next circumstance, it will either be holy or profane. Jeremiah was afflicted by the men and women being lulled by the lullaby of false prophets. How do we believe the same when we try to put God in a box---a God that we can understand and figure out. Our God is incomprehensible Mystery! May I be more concerned about my own failure to love, failure to live than anything that has happened. "Return to Me. Put away your detested things from My Presence." God is Present for us and asking for the sin to be put away.
Unravel. Untangle. "Am I entanged in the affairs of this world in which I live? Are my thoughts anxious and wrapped around offenses. Engage in the good fight of faith. Fight for what is the truth. I Timothy 4.
"In your Righteousness, rescue me and deliver me; turn your ear to me and save me. Be my rock of refuge, to which I can always go; give the command to save me, for You are my Rock and my Fortress." Psalm 71:2-3
