"Incline Our Hearts" 1 Kings 8-9, Luke 21:1-19

Solomon stood on a brazen scaffolding erected for this occasion.
He knelt before all his kingdom, as a king, not as a high priest.
And Solomon prayed a doctrine found only in his father's words:
"Incline our hearts" - words found only in the psalms of David.
Solomon was penetrated through and through by David, his father.

And he prayed 1 Kings 8:58-61
May God turn our hearts to Him,
to walk in obedience to Him,
and keep the commands, decrees, and laws he gave our ancestors.
May these words which I have prayed before the Lord
be near to the Lord our God day and night
that he may uphold us according to whatever need it is we have this day.

Incline our hearts, o God!
We all need you so!
One commentator said that what Solomon asks for in this prayer
is still granted in the intercession of Christ, of which is supplication was a type.
We shall receive grace sufficient, suitable, seasonable, in every time of need.
"No human heart is of itself willing to obey the Gospel call to repentance,
faith, and newness of life, walking in all the commands.
Yet, Solomon exhorts them to be perfect.
And when our hearts are inclined, feeling sin and weakness,
pray for Divine assistance." Matthew Henry

Never in my life have I needed Divine assistance more.
