February 1 "Offerings of Our Very Lives" Leviticus 1-2

"The general design of these laws is plain. The sacrifices typified Christ; they also shadowed out the believer's duty, character, privilege, and communion with God. There is scarcely any thing spoken of the Lord Jesus in Scripture which has not also a reference to his people."

The Israelites are stuck at the base of Mount Sinai through this entire book.  What offering do they bring to Christ in the completed tabernacle?  Blessing.  Obedience.  Sacrifice.  Fast Forward to today.  What offering do we bring?  Our very selves.  Leviticus 1:2  what offering do we bring?

  1. So what is the significance of all these various offerings? What do they mean to us today?

What follows are not my original thoughts:

The Burnt Offering: Pictures Christ who gave Himself as "a sacrifice to God for a sweet smelling savour"

The Grain Offering: The perfections of Christ's Person and life

The Fellowship Offering: The communion which the believer in Christ enjoys with God

The Sin Offering: presents Christ who died for our sins and trespasses on the cross.

All this points to Jesus Christ our Lord and Saviour.

"You study the Scriptures, because you think that in them you will find eternal life. And these very Scriptures speak about me!"

As we read through the Bible this year, we should always be looking for Jesus.

    My prayer today:
LORD, open my eyes that I may see you.

  2. Other religions teach a struggle to be good enough to reach heaven. But our Lord God saw us in our sin and reached down to us to bridge that huge gap. Jesus is the glorious Lamb of God. Jesus said “Unless you believe that I am he you will die in your sins” (John 8:24). Our Lamb that takes away our sins. Once and forevermore.
