July 25 "Personal Pain" Ecclesiastes 5-8

"When times are good, be happy;
but when times are bad, consider this:
God has made the one as well as the other.
Eccl 7:14.

And those times that are bad make us aware of what is really going on inside of us.  One of those 10,000 moments when words and phrases and emotions lash out way too easily.  And we had no idea we harbored such animosity to God's plan.  No idea.

"We naturally believe that our worst problem is personal pain
occasioned by others who relationally fail us.
Because we fear that pain the most, 
we expend our strongest energy to protect ourselves against it.
We think that our greatest good is our immediate satisfaction,
and so we arrange for it any way we can,
whether through drugs and sex or hard work and achievement
or worship times and Christian service.

In every trial that comes our way,
in every heartache we endure,
in every failure we willfully fall into,
in every season of darkness when dreams lie shattered,
we can count on one certainty:
God is at work to make us aware
of how far short we fall of His relational perfection
and to do whatever it takes to get us relating like Him."
