Resident Aliens. James 1:1.
Living in a challenge of being an exile.
Foreigners in our own country.
Homeless in our own neighborhood.
That's the audience James writes to. Us.
We are made for another world.
And what will we do with these trials sent our way.
"Let patience have the saying and doing of it. James 5:7
Let us take care, in times of trial, that patience and not passion, is set to work in us." Matthew Henry.
"We should not pray so much for the removal of affliction, as for wisdom to make a right use of it... There is something in answer to every discouraging turn of the mind, when we go to God under a sense of our own weakness." M. Henry. And this speaks so loudly to me. God says it right here for me in my discouragement, disappointment, despair. James 1:5 "Let him ask of God who gives to all liberally and it will be given to him." You see, I fear that my discouraging thoughts are too many, too long, too deep, too unfamiliar. That's not what my God invites me to. I can rise above even this.
COME BOLDLY: Timeless Prayers
Dear Father, We all long to be wise in our relationships with our husbands, our children, our families. We live with ourselves and we know what we are really like on the inside. Help us grab hold of the truth of this book that we will grow by affliction. May we humble ourselves under Your Hand. Make us humble pilgrims in our neighborhoods.
