December 18 "Fight The Good Fight" I Timothy 5, 6

Fight the good fight of faith, lay hold on eternal life, whereunto you are also called…

I Timothy 6:12

Lay hold of this eternal life. We have to fight for it. This isn't just about knowing; not about reasoning; not about philosophizing; not about knowledge. All about faith. Believing the Captain of our Soul whom we do not see. And when we're shipwrecked at sea, the first person we look to is the Captain of the ship. So to Whom do we look. The Spirit of God who quickens the Word within us, the Life. And that brings new Life, new pages, new desires, new ears, new eyes, new touch, new perspectives. Everything is new. A new life here on earth. Our eternity starts here with New Life. And if it is ours for the taking, lay hold.

COME BOLDLY: Timeless Prayers

Dear Father, help us to fight the right battles, the good fight, the fight of faith. May we be willing to risk anything to lay hold on eternal life, here and now. Not just then. We thank you for positioning our lives in the battle. May we lay hold this day. And may we know exactly how to do that. Laying hold on this eternal life of ours. Paying attention to what stirs within. Make us fully alive.

PHOTO:  It's the little lake next to my classroom.  The place I go to pray and ponder and plead for mercy.  I went today.  I so need to fight this good fight not the bad fight.  I want to fight people and their wrong ideas. That's not the fight of faith.  I so need to lay hold on this eternal life here-and-now.

  2. Good to hear, Jan. Sometimes when things are the worst in our circumstances, our faith is sparked to life as He grants us the strength and unexplainable joy to move through each day.

Continuing to uphold you and your sweet family in prayer.

  3. Pearls, our dear friend Connie passed away peacefully yesterday morning. I know the family would appreciate your prayers for their strength in the coming days as we mourn the loss of this mother, wife, friend. Love and hugs to each of you that you may experience the Hope and the authentic Message of this Advent season.

Also, our ranch caretaker, Veronica, lost her sister unexpectedly yesterday in Mexico and she is unable to go to the funeral. This is the third family member that she has lost that she has not been able to be with her family. Please lift her in prayer as you feel led.

I am having some outpatient surgery on Monday to excise a cyst in my breast. I thought I was done with all of this, and they believe it isn't anything serious, but to take it out and biopsy it is good protocol. I would appreciate your prayers for peace and skill of the surgeon and that is, indeed, nothing.

I hate to be a downer during Christmas, but life seems more poignant and serious juxtaposed against the joy and very Good News of our Savior coming to save this ragamuffin world. May our troubles fade away as we focus on the true Joy of our lives, Jesus.

    2. Praying your requests. We also need to remember those who lost family members during the year and this will be their first Christmas without their loved one.

    3. I'm praying for Connie 's family and Veronica. And praying for Annette as you have surgery. Although the birth of Christ is a joyous occasion, I think of poor Mary, 9 months pregnant, traveling to a strange place on a donkey, unmarried yet following God. Joseph, who mostly likely was somewhat ashamed yet following God. It was uncertain what their journey would bring. Yet they followed. In our uncertain lives, we follow God. The journey is difficult, the destination is our goal.

  4. Oh Annette, I just sighed deeply at the news of Connie fighting for her last breath and waking into His Arms. I'm so sorry for their family at this special time of celebrating Christ's birth. His birth will also bring a death. For us all. Praying for their family. And for Veronica. How very sad to lose your sister unexpectedly and not be with your family to grieve the loss. Prayers for peace.
