September 10 "Facedown" Ezekiel 42, 43

"And I fell on my face." Ezekiel 43:3.  What causes me to fall on my face?  I can think of times:  cancer, betrayal, loss, grave disappointment, depression.  Seems like it is when something happens to me rather than what stirs within me.  Ezekiel saw a vision concerning what God would do to the people of the city---destroy them.  And the immense glimpse of suffering and shame overwhelmed Ezekiel with sorrow.  And he fell.  Facedown.

COME BOLDLY:  Timeless Prayers
God, cause us to be a people who deeply care about the depravity and destruction we see in our own time and towns.  The quote from Buechner comes to mind:  may our calling meet the world's great needs.  Give us bigger hearts that beat to be givers not takers in this world of woe.

PHOTO:  Beautiful sunrise here in Galveston.  May we all fall on our faces before the One Who holds the oceans at bay and the sunrise so grand.  "The place God calls you to is the place where your deep gladness and the world's deep hunger meet."  Frederick Buechner

  1. Bev, thanks for the amazing picture! It speaks to me as a reminder of God's magnificent power and glory. In the last month, both of our beloved dogs died, I lost one of my part -time jobs and I have been facedown. However, in that time, we have welcomed a seriously traumatized puppy into our home as a foster dog. As she heals, so do our hearts. A day after I lost my job, my husband started a part-time job, two weeks later, he started a second part -time job. And to top it off, I have a new location to sell my Art. God is at work in our lives. It's been a difficult 3 years since my husband lost his job, so many times I wonder how long this season with last. When God blesses us, I'm reminded that a season is a specific time and soon another season will be here. Through these challenges, I'm more determined than ever to hold on to God.
