August 21 "Seek Great Things" Jeremiah 41, 42, 43, 44, 45

"Do you seek great things for yourself?  Seek them not." Jeremiah 45:5

"No one is more influential in your life than you are because no one talks to you as much as you do." I love this quote by Paul David Tripp.  Are we counseling ourselves in Truth?  According to the Word of God?

"Johanan, the son of Kareah and all the leaders of the forces with him heard of all the evil that Ishmael the son of Nethaniah had done." Jer 41:11.  There is more evil in these chapters than we see in a lifetime.  So what do we do with this kind of trouble?  How did they live in the midst of this stress and uncertainty and horror?

And what did they tell themselves?  "Whom shall I fear?"  "I would have despaired unless I had believed that I would see the Goodness of God in the land of the living."  Jeremiah offers a word as they wrestle to remember what God has done.

And Jeremiah's mantra is recorded for me and for you this very day:  Seek not great things for yourself.

COME BOLDLY:  Timeless Prayers
Oh God, we all have problems, and will have more as we walk uphill all the way home.  Would you reveal to each of us what we are really telling ourselves?  Would you let us see straight, the plumbline of our souls.  Come, Lord Jesus!

    1. I am doing good. As far as I can tell my heart is staying in sinus rhythm. Praise God. Have had issues with my blood pressure going back up at night, but hopefully they are being resolved. Bless you for thinking of me. I think of you often too. Praying that the crooked path in front of you will become straighter each day. We serve a good God who is Big, much Bigger than we truly realize. Prayerfully will be on the road one week from today headed toward a few days in Dallas.

The God of the Angel Armies watches over all of us.

  2. These have been hard chapters in the fall of Jerusalem. Can you imagine being the one chosen to bring all this bad news? Jeremiah knew that he was God's mouthpiece. The "weeping prophet" walked through very dark days both personally and on behalf of Jerusalem. Whatever we deal with, God is bigger. The near future may not look that bright, the days may be hard, but He has promised to walk with us "through the valley of the shadow of death."

Through it all, sunshine and storm, proclaim His Name. Looking forward to a little sunshine myself this next week as we head to California for a few days. Blessed day, Pearls!

  3. I might not be happy, the days may be long and filled with despair, however I can remain filled with the Lord's joy. His joy is my strength.

Mary Lou, - Glad you are doing well.
