He asked for a double portion of the grace his friend lived out.
Elisha wanted double Elijah. 2 Kings 2:9
And look how Elijah prepares for his passing away.
He goes to the prophets, exhorts and encourages them.
No sitting back for him. Action, because this is the Gospel!!!
And here is this Jordan River. Where the ark first floated. Where the Messiah will be baptized. Meanwhile... "When God will take up his faithful ones to heaven, death is the Jordan which they must pass through, and they find a way through it. The death of Christ has divided those waters, that the ransomed of the Lord may pass over. O death, where is thy sting, thy hurt, thy terror!" Matthew Henry Commentary
Nothing matters more than truly living in this moment, this day.
Loving others like God intends.
Loving others like God sees them.
Loving others more than wanting others.
These waters flow freely in the city of God.
The Living Water. The only thing that quenches this thirst of ours.
Elijah knew what it meant to live holy.
May we find holy living today.
COME BOLDLY: Timeless Prayers
Oh Father, may we desire "double portions" of the Goodness and Grace that we see in your people. May we long for that more than we long for the things of this world. Make us holy unto You, O God. Make us a holy people who will live and love for eternity.

On this day, a couple decades ago, a little boy appeared. I had to touch his toe to see if he was really real. And the doctor's first words to me as this little life gasped for air: "Don't ever get pregnant again or I'll have to put you in the mental ward." Really strange that i remember it. Maybe not. You see, I thought I was losing my mind those 9 months. Raging hormones. Bedridden. So sick. It all reversed when he was born. We don't know what will happen to us today, tomorrow. Let us face this day with courage even in the midst of our mess and say "Glory, to the One Who holds our lives." Happy Birthday little Britt---although you have never been little. Your madre loves you more than you will ever know!
ReplyDeleteHappy Birthday Britt!
ReplyDeleteNevertheless, he (Jehoram) clung to the sin of Jeroboam the son of Nebat, which he made Israel to sin; he did not depart from it. The phrase clung to sin struck me this morning. What do I cling to? The Lord, His Promies, His ways, His Word or things of the world?
Love that word. Cling.
