May 18 "Fulfill My Vows" Psalms 26, 40, 56, 61, 62, 64

My foot stands on level ground when I am forgiven. There is no penance that we dare do to pay for our sins.

waited patiently for the Lord;
    he inclined to me and heard my cry.
He drew me up from the pit of destruction,
    out of the miry bog,
and set my feet upon a rock,
    making my steps secure.
He put a new song in my mouth,
    a song of praise to our God.
Many will see and fear,
    and put their trust in the Lord. Psalm 40:1-4

David finds equal footing at the Cross. David waits for no man. Only God.

These psalms offer such hope for everyone for we all have fallen short.  Not murderers.  But murderers in our hearts.  And a God Who forgives and beckons for so much more.  David begins Psalm 61 with salty tears flowing down his face, crying out to the ends of the earth.  No rest.  David ends the psalm with newfound passion:  "I will sing in praise of Your Name and fulfill my vows day after day." Psalm 61:8.

What are we missing in our walks today that we do not hear the beckoning; that we do not cry from the bottom of our own evil hearts; that we do not go to the ends of the earth for solace for what we face.

Psalm 61:2
"From the end of the earth I call to you
when my heart is faint.
Lead me to the rock
that is higher than I,
for you have been my refuge,
a strong tower against the enemy.

COME BOLDLY:  Timeless Prayers
Father, may we come boldly to You this day in the midst of all that we face.  And may we nod in humility, write a new script, and wake up to the opportunities of this new morn to fulfill our vows.
Today.  And again Tomorrow.  And Always.

  1. This is why I love reading the Bible chronologically. On a day like yesterday, His Word speaks of despair, death, degradation. And today, it shows David's refuge, where his hope is renewed, and frankly how to get out of the mirey pit.

    Find refuge today, Pearls, under the refuge of His Wing.

    "He only is my rock and my salvation,
    my fortress; I shall not be shaken.
    On God rests my salvation and my glory;
    my mighty rock, my refuge is God.
    Trust in him at all times, O people;
    pour out your heart before him;
    God is a refuge for us."

    A blessed refuge for us! And blessed Sunday, Pearls.

  2. David continually turned to God. He did not run from friend to friend asking them what they would do. (Not that there is anything wrong with seeking godly counsel.) David knew his solace, equilibrium, and protection was in the Lord alone.

  3. Something happened to me yesterday when I read these psalms. Literally, like a Gentle Breeze blowing over me and my little family. He is real. And what I deal with is so real. And if could get out of what we've done by just a choice of the mind, the will, we'd all be there. But it's this deep silent wrenching gorgeous trust that David captures!!! And it becomes so real in him. So genuine. So life-changing. So full of hope for a man who committed murder and adultery.
