Psalm 3, written by David as he flees his very own son who is out to kill him. Cannot imagine having a father-in-law and now a son as brutal enemies.
Oh Lord! how many are my foes!
Many rise against me, saying of my soul,
There is no salvation for him in God.
Not true, David.
Not true for me and you this circumstance, either.
For God is showing up to offer His full salvation.
Our God is the Lifter of our heads, today. Always. Psalm 3:3
These words are not a quick fix for any of us.
David wrestles in this wilderness to trust God's Hand in all of this.
It's not just a choice you make one time. It's a dependent life.
It's a surrendered life to the One Who is leading us home.
Larry Crabb said it this way:
"Expect your theological boxes to explode,
to lose all false hope in what My Love will provide in this life.
We've built these thoughts that life should happen a certain way.
And what happens when it doesn't?
May we be shaken and stirred to find this new way of thinking.
The abandoned life to Christ.
Because He is God and we are not.
COME BOLDLY: Timeless Prayers
Father, we have all arrived at places where we thought we would never be. Shatter the false hopes we place in this life. Create willing hearts in each of us to follow you even if you leave things as they are. May we live surrendered a little more this day than yesterday.

It's the place where David flees. No rain here. But it's raining in David's valley for he wrestles with the hard questions of life as he is betrayed once again. And he cares, at this point, more about Absalom and refuses to take revenge. He wants to reach his son. But at what point does it become dependence on this situation to work out rather than dependence on God? Help us today, O God, depend on You alone and what you provide.
