January 28 "12,000 Feet in the Air" Genesis 46-47

The land of Canaan fainted.
The home of Jacob nourished.
Genesis 47:12.
Joseph took care of his father and brothers as though they were all helpless children, according to the word used in the Hebrew.  Nourished.  The ones who had thrown him away.  The ones who had turned their backs on him.  Joseph was full faced to those 13 men.  They had nothing to worry about in the midst of a stark ghastly famine.  I have groaned much through this book of Genesis.  Oh, to live like heaven is our true home, and things here, the way people treat us, well, it is not held against them.

This 130-year-old dad believes he has aged prematurely due to his suffering.  But his eyes are on his home in heaven.  Joseph will go on to live 17 more years with the boy he loves as his Governor, Provider, Nourisher, Caretaker.  And who can we take care of this day?

Genesis.  It's the beginning.  God wants us to realize:  "I never underestimated how thoroughly you'd mess up your life or how painfully you would struggle and suffer [Jacob, Joseph, and you].  I don't want you to underestimate your failures or struggles either.  They're all part of the story I'm telling."  66LL.  You see, God entered Jacob's mess.  And He is summoning you and me to Himself.  To turn everything right side up.  To make everything work for good.  Those who have betrayed us.  Those who have left us for dead.  Those who have refused to change.  12 brothers.

COME BOLDLY:  Timeless Prayers
Father, as we listen to You this day, mark us for life with this Word of Life from Joseph and his story.  Help us live to give not grasp.

  1. I read the wrong reading for today. So I just changed my post to reflect today. My mistake. I so needed to hear tomorrow's today. Been a rough patch over here this week.
