December 15 "What Swerves My Love Away" I Timothy 5:6

Swerve.
And I'm off the path to love.
How do we keep from swerving in this life?
What swerves our love to God, our love to our husband, our love to our children, our love to our world?  I Timothy 5:6 says if we swerve from love that issues from a pure heart, a good conscience, a sincere faith, then we wander away into vain discussions.  Whatever dents, weakens, interrupts, smothers our love to God & others---what do we do with the experience?  Do we understand what we really are saying when we assert that we want to love God more than anything else?  That we want to follow Him fully? Are we promoting speculation or stewardship of the Gospel?  When my actions of love issue from not too pure of a heart, do I call it what it truly is?  Swerving from God.  And I just love I Tim 1:15 that Paul, one of the greatest Christians who ever lived, calls himself the "foremost of sinners" in his old age.

PRAYER FROM PSALMS
Psalm 119:51 - There are arrogant people in my life who mock me, deride me.  Especially because I am not young.  "I do not swerve from your truth."  Oh God, make me continually live that way to the day I die.  Open my eyes to see where I give power to other people, where I long for the applause of men, where I need the stamp of approval of this world.  Help me this day not to swerve; to do more than survive; give me the power to repent and surrender.
