Rom 9:14 "I have Mercy on Whom I Will (September 29, 2012

Romans 9:14 ~ God says: "I will have mercy on whom I will have mercy."  The context draws us back a few years to Moses lining up a petition for all the people who had committed idolatry with the golden calf to sign this petition called 'No More.'  According to God, the terms of this condition are fixed.  No negotiations.  I will have compassion on whom I will have compassion— God will show compassion on those who submit to His Plans, those who accept his conditions the way that He has appointed.  My default reaction is to evaluate outcomes daily whether God is keeping His Word to all of our students.  How unreal.  I am evaluating the God of all Justice Who will right all wrongs, someday, not this day.  No More.  Do I look with blinders at the blessings of my friends?  Or, do I look to the Merciful One

  1. Amen, Bev. We sing "He is Lord" and then we go right back to our own driver seat in our lives.

Evaluating outcomes daily...oooh, that is my own sin. Looking with blinders and judging.

I haven't heard Moses' petition called "No More." I love that thought, too.

I join you in a prayer of No More idols of my own evaluations and judgments and sitting in the driver's seat of my life, and give God all the glory, Is. 48:10-11 as He refines us as silver and delays His wrath.

This is what the Lord says—
your Redeemer, the Holy One of Israel:
“I am the Lord your God,
who teaches you what is best for you,
who directs you in the way you should go."

    Praise His Name.

  2. Moses Petition: "No More"
I made it up. Why is it we easily see behavior without motivation underneath the act? Isn't that what idols are?
