Psalm 115:1 "To Your Name Be Glory" (July 29)

This week as I have wrestled about my life, my place, my heart---there is a verse that kept coming to mind:  Psalm 115:1 Not to us.  Not to us, but to your Name be Glory.  This life is not about me yet I am enmeshed in figuring it out.  Not to us but to your Name bring Glory!

Psalm 113:7 God raises the poor from the dust.  Lifts the needy from the ash heap.  Trusting.

  1. Indeed this life is not about us, it is about bringing Him glory. Perhaps in our seeking His face as we try to figure out our place in His story, perhaps that is one thing that brings Him glory. We are insignificant by and in ourselves, but it is the Him in us that is worthy of all praise. He truly lifts the needy from the ash heap....and they shine brilliantly for Him as they look up to Him and Him alone.

  3. Paul wanted to know his life work wasn't in vain. He had suffered much and was in the middle of great affliction because of The Gospel of Christ. But he worried about Satan getting the better of his Testimony.

Twice it says, "when he could bear it no longer..." At his breaking point, he wanted to know what counted. What mattered. And Timothy brought the news he had longed to hear. The people of Thessaloniaca loved the Lord and Paul was comforted by their faith.

I know someone today who is hanging on by a thread, thinks she can bear it no longer, and nothing can really comfort her. Paul knew what mattered. The things we let steal our joy often don't count for eternity except time lost in pursuing hearts that matter to God. People matter. Love matters.

Praying this benediction today for my family, and each of you:
"Now may the Lord make you increase and abound in love for one another and for all, as we do for you, so that he may establish your hearts blameless in holiness before our God and Father, at the coming of our Lord Jesus with all his saints.
    Amen.
