Hebrews 5:2 ~ We can deal gently with the ignorant and wayward, since each one of us is beset with weakness.
Hebrews 5:8 ~ And just like Jesus, we learn obedience through what we suffer.
These words of God are holy and hallowed through the ages. No Formulas. A Throne of Grace for the humble. We do not profane the Word of God by taking it out of context nor by wielding one verse as the answer. These Words from God are not strategy but salvation; not tragedy but triumph; not answers but The Way. May we all learn this very day, a little more about obedience through what we suffer.
Beset with weakness.
ReplyDeleteDeal gently with others because we ourselves are weak and vulnerable, just as likely to stumble, just as bad, just as often-perhaps worse.
I know Scripture says in weakness we are made strong through Christ as our Strength, but I want to be strong before I am broken and contrite too many times.
I was thinking last night about how mean I can be and how hurt I feel and that ugly place from which i can be so cruel. How long will this heart not forgive? I want to be forgiven but I hold a grudge. Time to go to the Great Physician to pick the splinters out of this heart and begin the healing, confess that I've let them build callouses around them, hard places of heart, and ask for the Savior to save me once again, in His Mercy. Then, deal gently with others...
Beset by weakness, but recreated by Grace. Do it, Lord. So in need of my Savior this day and always.
"He can deal gently with the ignorant and wayward, since he himself is beset with weakness."
ReplyDeleteThis weekend, my father and I had a discussion about Moses when he was tending the sheep for his father-in-law. God met him there in the burning bush on holy ground.
Moses had run away from everything, hiding.
We talked about what Moses' passion was. I wondered if his passion was his people...the Israelites. I wondered if his passion was righteousness. He was so offended by mistreatment.
But now I wonder if his passion was simply compassion. He felt the pain of those who were suffering. He saw their need.
What makes us feel compassion? What makes us deal gently with others?
What makes us humble and valiant?
"He can deal gently with the ignorant and wayward, since he himself is beset with weakness."
We NEED a high priest, too. We NEED an intercessor.
Aaron needed an offering for his own sins. Praise God we have our own High Priest, Jesus Christ.
May God Himself, through Jesus Christ, empowered by the Holy Spirit give us all a passion for compassion...gently dealing with the sheep He has so lovingly brought into our lives. Humbly offering up our own prayers of repentance because we are beset with weakness.
