Hebrews 4:16 "Discern My Thoughts" (November 7)

Hebrews 4:1 ~ The promise of Rest still stands.  Will I enter a Rest I know not as the faultlines of my soul move thought by thought?

Hebrews 4:12 ~ It's the Living Word, the Active Word that pierces and divides our souls and spirit and discerns the thoughts and intentions of our heart.  What Word from God keeps piercing your heart?

Hebrews 4:16 ~ Our sympathetic Great High Priest awaits our plea with grace and mercy.  How can I, this day---with confidence---draw near to the Throne of Grace?

  1. Even taking smaller morsels of His Word this year in the New Testament, I still find more in each day's reading than I can digest. Today this is particularly true. I feel I could spend weeks on these words to truly appreciate the fullness of the Gift we have in these passages.

"Let us then with confidence draw near to the throne of grace, that we may receive mercy and find grace to help in time of need."

On another note, when I was in Virginia, I got a workbook by Larry Crabb that I am enjoying addressing the authentic rest of God. It's called The Pressure is Off and offers a Dr. Crabb style challenge for how to walk in the path God has prepared for us.In The Pressure’s Off, Crabb spells out two pathways to life. He describes one as the old way where the focus is on what we can do for ourselves. The new way is the way of the Spirit. “Those who take this route through life find themselves flowing toward the Father in rhythm with the Spirit as He opens their eyes to see the beauty of Christ” The old way of Moses will follow principles, but also expects blessing in return. In submitting to the Law of Linearity, the pressure is most definitely on. In the new way of Christ Crabb describes, we are called to plead mercy, discover grace and experience rest. On this pathway, the pressure is off because those who walk this path live under the Law of Liberty. Freedom. Authentic Rest.

  2. Bev, this is the Word from God that keeps piercing my heart...

"Cease striving and know that I am God." Psalm 46:10 NASB

    Cease striving...

This has been speaking to me for the past week.

  3. Oh, Twinkle, that is the verse that has been pounding in my head and heart all week end.

May we all be still(cease striving) and know that He IS God.

  4. Mary Lou,
It's been the same with me. Cease striving. Be still.

    Sometimes I'm like a two-year-old that can't sit still.

I am READY for action! But the message continues...

Cease striving and know that I AM GOD.

Do you remember a time when your mom had to grab you and say firmly, "Be still!" I can. It was usually when she was trying to brush my long hair and I wanted to GO PLAY! She would really get my attention with that firm touch and firm command. That's what I feel God speaking to me. CEASE STRIVING!
