2 Peter 2:9 ~ The Lord knows how to rescue the godly from trials, and to keep the
unrighteous under punishment until the day of judgment.
What a promise to bank on...just when I think I can't face another conflict! The LORD knows how to rescue me.
That truly is a blessed thought, Bev, that He knows when to rescue us from trials. He gives us such hope and promise on every single page of His Word.
ReplyDeleteOh, the blessed Hope of the return of our Lord and Savior.
Indeed, He is our Rescuer. As we finish November, this year has flown by. Each day is one day closer to His glorious return. Each day seems to go by without much marked progress, but another year in the Word is a good year. I have so enjoyed each day checking in here and reading a short passage, slowing down this year to do a digestible portion all in The New Testament.
ReplyDeleteHave any of you seen/purchased the Holman Christian Standard version of the Bible yet? Our church is changing to this translation from the NIV and I was wondering if any of you had any feedback.
Hope your day is filled with More of Him!
Annette, I have one of the HCSB, I like it. I do not use it as my main Bible. I got it when I bought something else and it was included. Mine is a smaller one, so it can be on the night stand. Still love my NASB the most. The NLT is good too. Have read it in NIV in the Chronological Bible that we have read through this year as a church body and had sermons where one of the readings for the week was. This is the second year I've read it Chronologically with the church...it does make far more sense to read it and teach it Chronologically.....truly ties the WHOLE story together....HIStory.... That may not have helped you, but I think you will enjoy reading that translation, Bro. Steve preaches from the NAB...
ReplyDeletethat is the NASB...the New American Standard Bible...hit publish too quick.
ReplyDeleteThankful that He does rescue us from trials...
ReplyDeleteThanks for the help, Mary Lou. We're going there with the new version, like it or not. I just saw a lot of study bibles with that translation, and haven't quite found the right one for me yet.
ReplyDeleteHolman did it several years ago. You have to have something to guide your translation---whether it's word-for-word or thought-for-thought or consistent usage of Greek words or modern-day language or paraphrase or newspaper language or key thought or big ideas or on&on&on...therefore, the intro of Holman will tell you his guiding principle---I'm not sure what it is. It's owned by the Southern Baptists, right? Thomas Nelson bought Holman, as I understand it. So, it is going to be along our denominational lines to some extent---it will be evangelical, mainstream. I did read it through one year. One thing you can always do is read the hard passages of Scripture like Romans 1 where they talk about homosexuality and the uncomfortable passages (like the ones about heaven that Rob Bell has problems with), also verses like Jacob have I loved and Esau I have hated and see how Holman treats them. They are both strong word-for-word passages. They are not to be treated wooden. Holman is a solid translation. What thoughts do you have for reading next year? I'm so afraid to ask thinking that you are going to go away and I need this so. Need to trust God with it. I too have really liked the shorter version. I am intrigued right now with the thought of Conversations by Eugene Peterson and incorporating it some way. What do you think?
ReplyDeleteMay I just add that I am so "taken" by God and what He wills. I read in a current book yesterday that the author said that the loss of her child was the worst day of her life. I wondered if we would have ever heard Jesus say that the day of His Crucifixion was the worst day ever for Him on earth? Yes and No, The day may have been horrible. He asked for the cup to pass but embraced what He was called to do for me and you. Are we embracing the suffering God sends our way? With that, I'm thinking about what I face next Tuesday as I go in to see if they will biopsy. Best of times, worst of times--isn't it all God-ordained? Appreciate your prayers. I'm a better person for what I have faced and will face.
