John 1:47 "No Guile in Him" (May 10)

John1:47 "Jesus saw Nathanael coming toward him and said of him, "Behold, an Israelite indeed, in whom there is no deceit!" Nathanael said to him, "How do you know me?" Jesus answered him, "Before Philip called you, when you were under the fig tree, I saw you." Nathanael answered him, "Rabbi, you are the Son of God! You are the King of Israel!"
Jesus welcomed Nathanael into His Presence with a huge compliment.  Behold!  An Israelite Indeed. Well-versed in the faith.  No Deceit in you.  Jesus didn't say Nathanael was without deceit.  He read his beautiful heart that was governed by integrity and honesty and no compromise.  Nathanael had sin in his soul but at that moment, he held no deceitful ways.  Oh to be found so faithful!

I have missed in the gospels the fact that Jesus knew the hidden secrets of everyone's heart.  No surprises.  No unknowns.  And the same goes today...He sees right into my heart.  He knows my frame and all that has transpired this day, this life.  I have been misunderstood recently and so want to defend myself.  But, Jesus knows---He sees it all.  Lay my deadly doings down.

Do I live like my Heavenly Father, Jesus the Son, and the Holy Spirit are eavesdropping on every conversation, every hidden thought of mine?  Their ears are bent low.

  1. Just read another quote on Grace:

Martin Luther's Thesis 26 "The law says, “do this,” and it is never done. Grace says, “believe in this,” and everything is already done."

Behold the Lamb of God who takes away the sins of the world!
