Matthew 27:46 "The Only Crucifixion We Remember" (February 15)

Condemned. Mocked. Stripped. Crowned with thorns. Spat On. Beaten. Crucified.

Matthew 27:35
In only six words, Prophecy fulfilled.
One of 30,000 crucifixions by Romans
The only One we remember.
Hung between nameless thieves.
Penalty for sin paid
Profound Act of History
Parsed in six words

Matthew 27:46
Total Darkness at the 6th hour
When the Zenith shines brightest
The Curtain is drawn
And, In the Ninth Hour
Jesus cried out:
"My God, My God, why have you forsaken Me."
And the Curtain is ripped from top to bottom.

Such few freighted words
to describe the Sacrifice of His Son
to set me free, set you free
The Darling of Heaven opened a way
for you & me to access our Father God.
An uncommon crucifixion.
This sacrificial death, for my place.

Why is this the only Crucifixion we ever remember?

  1. Thank you for prayers for my boy. He's okay. We'll know in about 5 days if he needs an IV antibiotic. He has pneumonia again and a really bad sinus infection with mono. He's pushing through it hoping to not drop out. Thank you again---so very much, so very kind of you to ask about him.

  2. Today's passage is one of those to which I do not possess the skill to write my thoughts. All I can really says is Thank You Lord for pouring our Your life to save ours. To You and You alone be all the glory.

  3. Bev, praying earnestly for Britt, that he will receive the desire of his heart..to not have to drop out. I had mono in college, but was only sick over Christmas break...praying big prayers for him, I thought of him getting behind because he could not do the work or attend class.

As to today's reading.."why is this the only crucifixion we remember?" why is His name the only name that is used in cursing...no one uses the name of Allah or Buddah.....just the precious name of Jesus. His crucifixion and His name are two of the reasons for all of humanity even existing. I wonder why the Bible does not tell us the people's reactions to the sky being as dark as night at noon day? That alone would have been terrifying.....and pointed to Him. What food to ponder today...bless you Bev....and all the other pearls too.

  4. Faithful Bev, Praying for Britt's healing and his ability to catch up with the schoolwork. He's such a fine young man who stirred my heart asking for his mama's prayers.

Such hard words to read on a warm Texas morning--the only crucifixion we remember, the only One we need.

The One marked for our own salvation. His only charge: "And over his head they put the charge against him, which read, "This is Jesus, the King of the Jews." Indeed, and Savior of the World.

Silence and awe--yes, Annette. Such holy ground, such blessed day when Jesus died for us.
    Thanks be to God.

  5. I tremble in the Holiness of God as man on the Cross.

    Abba Girl, I'm with you.

Mary Lou, you are right on, why is Jesus the only name used in cursing?

Annette. I agree "Such hard words to read on a warm Texas morning--the only crucifixion we remember, the only One we need."

Jesus is my Savior and My Healer and is the Healer for Britt as well. "For by His Stripes, we are healed." As Britt experiences the pain of this physical attack may He soon experience the Healing Balm of Gilead that will Heal His body from the top of his head to the tips of his toes. In the Mighty Power of Jesus Name I pray for Britt, Amen.

  6. 50 "And Jesus cried out again with a loud voice and yielded up his spirit."

Saddest day for mankind...cruel mocking...murderers...a glimpse into the evil that man is capable of.

Sweetest day for Jesus...faithful...courageous...perfect redemption...a glimpse into the love that God alone is capable of.

To know that "he yielded up His Spirit" makes me love Him even more. He gave His life. He loved His sheep. He engraved us on the palms of His hands. He redeemed us.

    No greater Love.

  7. Speaking an outloud prayer for each of you. "The highest form of prayer is to the Goodness of God." Psalm 27:13-14 I would have despaired unless I had believed I would see the Goodness of the LORD in the land of the living. For each friend here, Good LORD,
May no mondegreens slip by...Matthew 13:15 make their hearts understand; cause the puzzle pieces to fall in tact that they may see something of your Goodness that they have not seen before. May the Truth sink deep, no slips, in their hearts.
May a Gossamer of Grace slip tight around their words of petition. Tie up the loose ends.
Let no Grace slip by this night.
We humbly ask in Your Holy Name.

Twinkle left a prayer for a few of you on Valentine's Day in case you missed it.

  8. Bev, thank you for increasing my vocabulary today. When I read your last comment I looked up and learned that the word mondegreen means the mishearing or misinterpretation of a phrase, typically a standardized phrase such as a line in a poem or a lyric in a song,i.e.God's Holy Word the Bible.

God answered your prayer in me this afternoon. This is what I picked up from you:

"The highest form of prayer is to the Goodness of God in prayer." Psalm 27:13-14 I would have despaired unless I had believed I would see the Goodness of the LORD in the land of the living. For each friend here, Good LORD, May no mondegreens slip by...Matthew 13:15 make their hearts understand; cause the puzzle pieces to fall in tact that they may see something of your Goodness that they have not seen before.

Today from being obedient in one area God removed a temptation from me that is not healthy for me in an amazing way that I have never experienced before in my life. When I can write more about it I will.

I have seen the Goodness of God in my life today. Thank you Bev and others Pearls who are praying for me.
