Mark 3:8 "Sin-Sick World" (February 21)

Mark 3:8  When the Geat Crowd heard all that He was doing, they came to Him. And He told His disciples to have a boat ready for Him because of the crowd, lest they crush Him, for He had healed many, so that all who had diseases pressed around Him to touch Him. Jesus perceived their thoughts.  He stood in Love in the midst of such overwhelming sin. The Pharisees had traveled all the way from Jerusalem to the Synagogue to prove Him wrong.  To plot to kill Him  A sin-sick world.  Better to kill Him than let Him give life from pain and frustration, life even from ourselves. Jesus moves His ministry from synagogue to seaside.  Come, Rise Up, and Follow Me, oh sin-sick sea-sick world.

Every sin is an attempt to fly from emptiness.  Simone Weil

Those words made me think about "famous" people. We all want to get close to them, meet them personally and perhaps even have our picture taken with them. I can't imagine how uncomfortable this must make them feel. They need to be protected and have an exit strategy when they are being "crushed". I am reminded this morning that there is only One who is Famous and who can heal... :)

  2. The Twelve Apostles
    "called"
    "Chosen"
    "desired"
    "appointed"
    "sent with authority"
    "given new names"

    Even Judas, who betrayed Him.

If you only were able to pick twelve, who but the Son of God (who knew how it all would turn out) would pick His betrayer to be His among His closest friends?

The Divine Plan was filled with pain. Our story is not neat and sweet, but big and messy, and provident and profound.

  3. I'm glad Jesus healed, even on the Sabbath.

I'm thankful for the faithful disciples. The book of John has comforted me many times. I've studied every detail of the nativity in Matthew and in Luke. And Peter has blessed me so much with his books. Judas betrayed Him, but another came along to fill the spot of the betrayer. In my eyes, that would be Paul. And what a legacy of faith Paul gave us in his writings.

They had a song to sing that they alone had been given.

  4. The quote that Bev shared...every sin is an attempt to fly from emptiness, keeps going around in my head. It brought up faces of different people that I know of and know and how empty their lives are because they don't know Jesus. One in particular I can see the major sins that I know she is commiting are truly an attempt to fly away from the emptiness in her soul. Heart wrenching it is to see this going on in a young mother's life and the affect it is having on the lives of her four children. This saying is oh, so true. This world is so sin-sick and all that is going on in the mid East is evidence of that fact too. Looking to the eastern sky....I am thinking our redemption draws near. We live in such over whelming sin....

  5. He called and appointed knowing exactly how the Father's plan of Salvation would unfold.

His love for us is so lavish.
