Matthew 9:2 "Healed Because of Your Friend's Faith" (January 12)

Matthew 9:2 Some people brought to JESUS a paralytic lying on a bed.  He healed THE PARALYTIC because of the faith of this paralyzed man's friends.  This so makes me want to pray for my friends like Joanne in Colorado who lies helpless in a hospital bed this morning.  Calling out to Him for our friends.  Bringing our friends to Him.  He'll take us ALL just as we are.  He invited sinners and tax collectors like Matthew to dinner (Matthew 9:9).  Matthew, who then went on to author one of the books of the Bible.

Matthew heard My Son's invitation to all whose lifestyle of grasping
had left them tired, burnt out, disillusioned, empty (Matt 11:28-30 Msg).
Matthew responded.  He learned the unforced rhythms of grace---
from grasping for life as a Roman Tax Collector
to giving life to others as a follower of My Son.

  1. Jesus said, "Follow me." What glorious words. They bring mercy, grace, healing and wholeness to our spirits, minds and bodies.

Thank You Lord for asking me to follow You.

  3. I remember a time when I was deeply troubled and shared with my small group and asked them to pray for me because I was having trouble praying for myself in a particular matter. "Lord help me to believe, help my unbelief." God did not disappoint and answered their prayers on my behalf. It is one of those "historical markers" in my life that I look back to remember God's faithfulness when I didn't or couldn't see the way. Thank you for the faith of our friends!

I finished reading The Message this morning a little behind schedule. I wasn't afraid as I read Revelation as I had been in the past. I understand when John said the word was sweet and then later turned his stomach. God is Holy and we will have to come face to face with Him and it should make us pause. I think that is one thing that I have taken away this year is a reminder of God's holiness and a call live and be holy in a world where it is getting harder to distinguish between the world and the church.

I just this moment got a call about my father-in-law being taken by ambulance this morning. He had passed out and fallen and the EMT think he has major broken bones such as the hip and leg. He is still on his way to the hospital. I'd appreciate your prayers for my family.

Thank you for the faith of our friends!

  4. I feel so surrounded by people whose lives have been invaded with bad health and are is need of prayer, earnest, consistent prayer. None of it makes any sense..godly people striving to serve Him and follow Him. Praying that He will receive the honor, glory and praise...lifting my brothers and sisters in Christ to His throne of healing...praying for them in faith that He will hold them close and heal them.

  5. Praying right now for your father-in-law, Michele. I know He is able. I am glad you shared with us that you finished today Revelation. Your faithfulness to keep on means something to me. Also the beautiful reminder that even when we can't, others on our behalf can pray and Jesus answers our need. Huge responsibility/privilege in this to not grow weary in prayer for others. Wholeness is what we need, Lord. Bring on healing in our feeble bodies, our anxious minds, our sin-sick hearts.

Matthew 9:12 ~ "Those who are well have no need of a physician, but those who are sick. Go and learnwhat this means, 'I desire mercy, and not sacrifice.' For I came not to call the righteous, but sinners."

  6. Isn't it amazing how today's word is the story of the paralytic's friends faith! It is our call to prayer.

Keep us posted as you can, Michele. Praying...also for Joanne and family.

  7. "And when Jesus saw their faith, he said to the paralytic, "Take heart, my son; your sins are forgiven."

The faith of the friends brought him to His Healer. And a miracle was performed...a miracle of healing.

Lord, I lift up the personal needs of my friends to You for Your divine intervention. Some need physical healing...like Joanne. Have mercy on her, Jesus. Some need Your touch for needs that are not physical. Meet every need. I'm placing them in front of You for Your touch. Heal physical needs, heal emotional needs, heal spiritual needs because of Your love and compassion for us. In Jesus Name. Amen.
