A String of Pearls

October 29 ... Luke 12 - 13 "The Great Reversal...Strangers to Grace"

Luke 12:2   "You can't keep your true self hidden forever; before long you'll be EXPOSED. You can't hide behind a religious mask forever; sooner or later the mask will slip and your true face will be known. You can't whisper one thing in private and preach the opposite in public..."

Luke 12:5  Save your FEAR for God, who holds your entire life—body and soul—in his hands.

Luke 12:15. Life is not DEFINED by what you have, even when you have a lot."

Luke 12:22 "Don't fuss about what's on the table at mealtimes or if the clothes in your closet are in fashion. There is far more to your inner life than the food you put in your stomach, more to your outer APPEARANCE than the clothes you hang on your body.

Luke 12:29  "What I'm trying to do here is get you to relax, not be so PREOCCUPIED with getting so you can respond to God's giving. ...Steep yourself in God-reality, God-initiative, God-provisions. You'll find all your everyday human concerns will be met. ...
Luke 12:53 Do you think I came to smooth things over and make everything nice? Not so. I've come to DISRUPT and CONFRONT!

Luke 13:28 - 30 - You don't want to end up STRANGERS TO GRACE or you'll watch Abraham, Isaac, Jacob, and all the prophets march into God's kingdom. You'll watch outsiders stream in from east, west, north, and south and sit down at the table of God's kingdom. And all the time you'll be outside looking in—and wondering what happened. This is the Great Reversal: the last in line put at the head of the line, and the so-called first ending up last."

  1. Britt took a turn for the worse Wednesday night and ended up in the hospital Thursday morning. He has been so sick. He has exudative tonsillitis (means severe) and a peri-tonsillar abscess on his tonsil. They are trying to find where the infection is coming from. Please pray that he recovers soon. He perked up after 8 hours on the antibiotics and pain meds so they are working. Thanks so much for praying for my boy. I'll post on Friday morning. Couldn't figure out how to get on the internet here in the hospital until tonight.

  2. Bev, going boldly to the throne of grace for Britt. Woke up early and prayed for him and will continue throughout the day. We will run to His name, our strong tower, on your families behalf! FG

  3. Bev, prayed for Britt not too long ago...,praying strength for you too. The young recover so much quicker than us...18 year olds respond to meds etc., and heal so quickly. Praying for wisdom for the doctors beyond thier knowledge.

  4. Bev, I'm praying here in Houston this morning for Britt again and for you, my friend. Lindsay ended up at the ER Wednesday, too, with 8 stitches in her knee after tripping on her shoe and falling on some granite stairs. They went ahead and went on their trip to Chicago but she's pretty sore.

Get back when you can and know you have a covering of prayers. Love, Annette

  5. Wow, that's something else about Lindsay...I am so sorry. Hope it heals quick---twenty something's heal so quickly. We are waiting for a little "breakthrough" over here with all these IV antibiotics. This is same thing George Washington died from or so they say---for a bit of history there. Grateful for antibiotics. Glad she got to make her trip. Britt wants to make the 50-yard line tickets he holds for UT/Baylor game Saturday evening. So far, it's looking dim but all things are possible, right?

  6. Praying for Britt and you and your husband during this time of illness and recovery.
The verses that struck me today were:
29 -32"What I'm trying to do here is get you to relax, not be so preoccupied with getting so you can respond to God's giving. People who don't know God and the way he works fuss over these things, but you know both God and how he works. Steep yourself in God-reality, God-initiative, God-provisions. You'll find all your everyday human concerns will be met. Don't be afraid of missing out. You're my dearest friends! The Father wants to give you the very kingdom itself.

The Father wants to give us the Kingdom, it is ours when we steep ourselves in His reality.

  8. Praying Britt has breakthrough with all the meds he's on.

Bev, how does it feel to not be the patient for once?!? Sure is bad when it's your baby. No matter how tall and handsome he is.
Get thee well, Britt! Touching the hem of Christ's robe for you right now!

I am so glad to be going through this time of study with all of you pearls. I am feeling God so tender in my life right now. Tender but Overwhelming. I keep feeling like I'm on the Rim of something HE is working in me.

Not that I like my marriage situation right now at all, but what a holy time to have Him all to myself every single day. He has become so very precious to me as my Friend as well as my Comforter and Creator and Communion.

Mary Lou, I just wanted to tell you how sweet your comment was to me the other day. The Nativity movie was good. The part about the shepherds was really sweet to me when they found Jesus in the stable.

Annette, your daughter is such a Shera woman (do you remember those cartoons with HeMan and Shera?) She gets 8 stitches and travels to Chicago...Wow! Love her grit.

    My favorite reading today:

"Just then some Pharisees came up and said, "Run for your life! Herod's on the hunt. He's out to kill you!"
Jesus said, "Tell that fox that I've no time for him right now. Today and tomorrow I'm busy clearing out the demons and healing the sick; the third day I'm wrapping things up. Besides, it's not proper for a prophet to come to a bad end outside Jerusalem."

The way this comes across in The Message makes me think of all the heroes I've watched on tv or at the movies. John Wayne, Clint Eastwood, James Bond, Kevin Costner, and oh so many more. There is a video on youtube about Jesus and the song playing in the background is Enrique Iglesias, "Let Me Be Your Hero."

I love it! He is the One and Only Forevermore!

    Be still my heart *swoon*!
