September 17 ... Daniel 7 - 9 "Sound-byte Theology"

Daniel 7

7:10  The courtroom was called to order, and the books were opened.   Our names.  Our Acts of Faith.  Our Decisions to Overcome Evil with Good.  Our Moves to Owe No Man Anything But Love.  What We Did With our Lives---and How Aware we were of our Sin.

Daniel 8

Compassion is our only hope, the compassion of you, the Master, our God.  We paid no attention to you when you told us how to live, the clear teaching that came through your servants the prophets.
"'Turn your ears our way, God, and listen. "

Daniel 9

While I was pouring out my heart, baring my sins and the sins of my people, Gabriel stood before me and said:   'Daniel, I have come to make things plain to you. You had no sooner started your prayer when the answer was given. And now I'm here to deliver the answer to you. You are much loved!

I don't think an angel will appear to us this day with such an answer.  We must live in the Confusion and Mystery OR am I demanding that God come down to my level to help me understand what in the world is going on in my life?   "Daniel spent hours trying to make sense of God's words (8:15) and his efforts to understand left him exhausted (8:27).  Do I want sound-byte theology?  Wisdom without struggle?  Formulas without Mystery?"  66 LL.

  1. Thrones were set in place and The Old One sat down…just wondering this morning what made God sit down. Is He standing now? Is He taking care of details smaller than I can imagine or greater than this universe? One thing I know. All is well and He is over all. We're in such Good Hands.

Dan. 9:17 - "Act out of who you are, not out of what we are…"
Daniel's prayer was powerful and is my prayer this morning. We fall so short. Thankfully, God acts out of Who He is, full of mercy and love, faithful to many generations.

9:20 "praying my life out before my God" to the point of exhaustion David cried out to God.

9:22 You had no sooner started your prayer when the answer was given. And now I'm here to deliver the answer to you. You are much loved!

Pearls, you too are much loved by the Old One who hears your prayers, who gives answers before you even speak the prayer, who responds out of Who He is, who stands on your behalf.

This makes me want to sing, Sylvia!

  2. I will join in the song with you Annette...what a blessing that He has answered before we even speak our prayers...praying He has read my heart when the prayers haven't come but were deep in there. "I am only sastified in You".."You are the answer, You are the way, You are the Truth, I am only sastified in You."....why oh, why do we ever try to find satisfaction anywhere else...it is all so empty without Him...

  3. Daniel prayed and the minute he started praying the answer was on it's way.

    God hears and responds.
I need to remember that. Even in His delays, He is actively responding to my prayers.

I am so thankful for men like Daniel. I believe we have them today. Great men who love God humbly and devoutly and keep serving Him no matter what.

I'm touched tonight by this reading to pray for our men who are so faithful. That they would stand fast and steady. That God would answer their prayers before they are finished praying. That they would intercede for others. That they would be Spirit-Strong in every role they have as men of God. I pray that the monster who devours would be no match for the Spirit in their lives guarding and guiding them.

May God raise up men like Daniel today.

For Jesus sake and in His name I ask.
