August 19 ... Jeremiah 26 - 29 "I'll Turn Things Around For You"

Am I hearing God speak?  Am I listening obediently?  Jeremiah 26:8  When Jeremiah had finished his sermon, saying everything God had commanded him to say, the priests and prophets and people all grabbed him and mobbed him in the temple, yelling, "Death! You're going to die for this! How dare you preach—and using God's name!—saying that this Temple will become a heap of rubble and this city be wiped out without a soul left in it!"  Jeremiah 26:12 - Jeremiah responded:  "God sent me to preach against both this Temple and city so do something about it!  Change the way you are living.  Listen obediently.  Maybe God will reconsider the disaster He has threatened.  You've been listening to God speak not Jeremiah.

Am I more serious about finding God and wanting Him more than anything else?  In Jeremiah 28, Jeremiah told prophet Hananiah that God never sent him.  "You've talked the country into believing a pack of lies!"   You claim to be sent...I'll send you right off the face of the earth.  God did.   Jeremiah 29: 9 - 11 talks about a bunch of liars preaching lies and claiming God sent them.  "I never sent them."  God's Decree!  This is God's word on the subject.  "As soon as Babylon's 70 years are up, I'll show up and take care of you and bring you back home.  I know what I'm doing.  I have it all planned out---plans to take care of you, not abandon you, plans to give you the future you hope for.  When you call on Me, when you come and pray to Me, I'll listen.  When you come looking for Me, you'll find Me.  Yes, when you get serious about finding me and want it more than anything else, I'll make sure you won't be disappointed."  God's Decreee:  "I'll turn things around for you."  His definition of good is different than mine.  Consciousness of sin can draw me closer to God.  The nearness of God is my good not things on this earth making it a good life.

  1. It is better to go into the house of mourning than the house of feasting for it's the destiny of us all...take heart. Went to my cancer buddy Joe's funeral today with about 500 friends. Joe was my texting buddy---every time he missed a game, I'd text him all the scores during the game his son was playing on our team. He could tell what was happening just by the score. Phenomenal basketball coach! Joe's preacher prayed for all of us that God would help us on our leaning side. I thought that was precious. He said not to make understanding what happened your goal but trust. It was a beautiful celebration of a life well lived. Praying for Joe's two young boys. Take it to heart!

  2. Day One of Emptynesters - My boy belongs to God not me. But I still can miss him tremendously. So sad I have to close this chapter as I have loved every minute of the past 29 years of having kids at home---but we move forward, maybe falling forward.

  3. Bev: Joining you in saying a prayer for Joe's boys and for your hurting heart this morning. May God help us on our leaning side. Love that thought...

(Jer 28) Prophets who claim to speak for Me preached the false Gospel of indulgent love, blessing without holiness, no consequence for sin.

Many years ago, I had a woman in my Bible study named Bahi who was from Israel. She would often add to the historical accuracy where we were studying and say with these few words “To this very day” which meant that whatever we were talking about still took place in Israel today. I can’t help but hear her heavily accented “To this very day” when I read Jeremiah where the “prophet” Haniniah preached the false Gospel of blessing without holiness and no consequence for sin. Let us be sure of one thing: in our search for God, we will miss Him if we only want sugar-coated words.

  4. "All the people mobbed Jeremiah right in the Temple itself."

Pearls...do you feel this same type of vengence attacking those who follow Christ in our world today?

    Jeremiah?
    Jeremiah?

I can hear God calling him. Jeremiah?

    Are you listening to Me?

    Jeremiah?

Do you fear men or do you fear God?

    Jeremiah?

I am looking for a man who will speak what I tell him to speak and not what wins him popularity...

    Oh, Jeremiah...
Do you realize you will be mobbed because you speak My words?
    Oh, Daniel...
Do you realize you will be cast into a den of lions because you choose to obey Me instead of men?
    Oh, Peter...
Do you realize you will be crucified upside-down on an X-shaped cross because you followed Me?

    Oh, String of Pearls...
Listen to My Words, follow the Narrow Road, don't turn away from suffering...
I AM a consuming fire burning in your hearts and souls.

I've been listening to Susan Boyle sing "Wild Horses." Praying that wild horses couldn't drag us away from our God, even during times of great suffering.

    Revelation 3:10-13

"Since you have kept my command to endure patiently,
I will also keep you from the hour of trial that is going to come upon the whole world to test those who live on the earth.

    I am coming soon.

Hold on to what you have, so that no one will take your crown.
Him who overcomes I will make a pillar in the temple of my God.
Never again will he leave it.
I will write on him the name of my God and the name of the city of my God, the new Jerusalem, which is coming down out of heaven from my God; and I will also write on him my new name.

He who has an ear, let him hear what the Spirit says to the churches."

  5. Bev, Joe would text you now if he could. Just think about what he would text from heaven!

    Britt.
I personally know how hard it is to place your children into the unseen hand of God. Weeping forward. Journal your prayers for your children. Do something fun you've always wanted to do...like painting or watercolors...

Memorize a treasured psalm and place Britt's name in the verses. Or yours!

I looked up the meaning of your name and it said a meadow by the water. I like that. It sounds so peaceful and providential. The meadow for growing things and the water for those who are thirsty.

You know God has good plans for you and things will get better. Glean as you walk through this. God is at work in your life. Trust Him. He is not wringing His hands or standing at a crossroad. He knows the way you go.

I believe you could write a book or even a children's story book.

  6. When Joe's wife saw me amid the 500 mourners, she lit up and smiled and lovingly loudly blurted out: "It's Joe's texting buddy!" I probably averaged sending him about 50 texts a game plus stats on top of it. And I replied: "I'm texting him right now!" It was a sweet moment. Love his boy!
