JONAH - Take-Aways

JONAH Take-Aways

GRACE

The sailors vowed to follow God if he saved them from shipwreck. Jonah promised to follow God from the belly of a whale with no end in sight. Jonah 2:8.  Let me not cling to worthless idols and turn away from God's love for me.  Jonah prayed to not miss the Grace of God in his big problem in the belly of a whale. That's about the toughest circumstance around.  No light. No exit. No advocate. No explanation. No way out. Three days.

Jonah was so successful in ministry and he was so devastated by what God wanted to do. Save the city of Nineveh.

Joel has spent his heart telling us that the basis of the spiritual life is humility. Here it is. Follow God and it requires you to die to your moralistic understanding of life and what should happen and how we want it to happen. Jonah wanted God to do what Jonah thought was best. He did not miss the grace of God. He surrendered and was surrounded in Nineveh by Love Itself.
