114 -"Peace to You Cause the Lord is on Your Side" 2 Samuel 5:1-10; 1 Chronicles 11-12, Psalm 133

David turned to God in a cave, all alone.

He wasn't plotting and planning to become a king.
He lived a 20-something life of surrender.
Dependence.  Forgiveness.  Compassion.  Integrity.

And, The Chief of the 30 told David:  Peace, Peace.  To you and all your helpers. Because. The LORD is with you.  On your side, David.  I Chron 12:18.

Oh God!  In the midst of all of our battles, whether we are in a cave or county seat,
we will only increase if You are with us.  Fight this battle of our soul, this hour!

David did not covet becoming a king.
He let the story play out itself.
Line upon line.

And then, a 30-year-old is anointed.  And reigns for 40 years.
I envision this young man hiding in a cave praying for mercy for Saul not for his death.

And what's my default thinking when times get tough?
Is it for God's Mercy or massacre?
God help us all.

Father, I am deeply moved by this life young man surrendered to Your Will, Your Plan.
He may have thought about Saul's death but he never wrote about it.  No temptation is not common to man so he must have struggled with the horror of life with Saul.  A king who had supernatural forces of a very powerful enemy on his side.  No match for the King of Kings.  When we feel today the forces of evil---and we will---may we surrender with no strings.  For that, we need Your Power, O God!  Be merciful to us this day!

PHOTO:  It's a dark day outside.  It's a dark day inside my heart, too.  And I ponder on this beautiful Word of God about David's darkest of days hiding in caves.  But, alas, I believe David's days may turn dark again.  Enlighten our darkness, O God!  2 Samuel 22:29 - isn't that what David prayed many dark days ago.  You will, O God.  We know You will.
