The Creator of this wide world told Abram to go from his country, from his people, from his father's household to a land God would show. Gen 12:1.
The Unknown. Don't we all sit there in some ways this very day. I don't know how much longer we will live here in Austin. We left our home of 33 years in Fort Worth and came and things haven't panned out like I had hoped. So, what do you do when things go awry? Gen 12:10 Hard famine hit and Abram came up with a strategy to say his wife was his sister and protect his life. No! God doesn't want our strategy to make our life work better. Life is living for Him not making our lives here better.
After more than a decade in Austin, I can say Bob and I have a host of supporters and followers. I feel deeply appreciated. And I feel deeply alone. People are so caught up in their own truly full lives. Then, throw a year's worth of a pandemic on the pile. The Creator God just might be telling us to move, to go, to love, to stop. I do believe, it is more blessed to give right where you sit, than to receive.
Why did Abram leave it all. Divine Guidance. His sole decision based on a premise---he was headed to a heavenly country and it was the next stop along the way. So, what's my next stop along the way? What's the will of God? How do you find it? You don't leave cause you are lonely. The best thing to do is to pray silently for God's will.
Abraham lifted up his eyes and called on the name of the Lord. Gen 13:4. First prayer in the Bible. Lot lifted up his eyes and called on the earth to be good to him. Gen 13:10. Lift up your eyes to The Creator!
