August 24 "Do Not Seek Great Things" Jeremiah 45:5

The Lord added sorrow to their pain. Jeremiah 45:3. And they went after other Gods for relief. Found places with no famine. Valued something more than God's Love.

And God said: Are you seeking great things for yourself? Do not seek them. Just this very night that is where I was. Caught by the Word. Loved by a God Who understands. Kept by His Promises

Wrestle well with pain and sorrow.

  1. Beautiful blazing sky, Bev! "Caught by the Word." Yes, indeed. As you have said, His Word reads us, our lives and points out unholy places within. Lovingly corrects and changes the course of our lives back on track. I love His Word and the Power behind It.

  2. Jer. 42:4-6. "Then Jeremiah the prophet said to them, “I have heard you. Behold, I am going to pray to the Lord your God in accordance with your words; and I will tell you the whole message which the Lord will answer you. I will not keep back a word from you.” Then they said to Jeremiah, “May the Lord be a true and faithful witness against us if we do not act in accordance with the whole message with which the Lord your God will send you to us. Whether it is pleasant or unpleasant, we will listen to the voice of the Lord our God to whom we are sending you, so that it may go well with us when we listen to the voice of the Lord our God.”

Jeremiah continues to bring the whole truth to his people, and they promise once again loosely to be okay with hearing the whole truth, even the unpleasant parts. And once again, they choose flatly not to do it. They even understand that with obedience comes protection (verse 6 ...so that it may go well with us when we listen to God." But then they turn it around with no repentance and no change. They can't handle the whole truth. And today, I wonder if we can handle the whole truth.

Lord, help us take Your whole Word and plant it in our hearts, not just the parts that we like and are comfortable with. Help us to heed Your instruction and warnings as seriously as we celebrate Your benefits. You alone are God. You alone are my God. And I love Your Word, all of it. For with Your instruction comes wisdom and protection. With Your Warnings, I can yet change course and return. With Your Grace, I am saved from certain destruction both this day and eternally.
