August 20 "Curved In" Jeremiah 46:24

Here is a prophet whose life is threatened because he brought the Word to them.

Jer 46:14 Do with me what is good and right in your sight. And God will change His Mind for you. What a beautiful response from Jeremiah. They wanted to kill him!

Jer 46:24 But the hand of Ahikam the son of Shaphan was with Jeremiah, so that he was not given into the hands of the people to put him to death. Oh to be so other-centered. Used by God as His Hands. This life. Even with those who disconnect distance and disrespect us.

"We are all curved in on ourselves" like this city full of people watching out for themselves.

  1. May we see our true heart condition and that of our nation, so we repent and cry out to the Lord not along party lines and rhetoric but for our fellow countrymen to be saved and our nation to serve the Lord.

  2. "For I know the plans that I have for you,’ declares the Lord, ‘plans for welfare and not for calamity to give you a future and a hope. Then you will call upon Me and come and pray to Me, and I will listen to you. You will seek Me and find Me when you search for Me with all your heart." Jer 29:11-12

These verses reassure our hearts that our good God is in charge. Rarely, do we note the context of them, though. Exiled people, 70 years of captivity is their plight. Hard times are ahead but He gives them a hope in the meantime. It's this same hope that we have this very day. Some of the same captivity. Hard times are ahead. And there's no promise of escape and no quick rescue, but hang tight. Hold closely to your God who knows every thought and plan He has for you. Seek Him with your whole heart. And you will find Him.

  3. Yesterday in church we sang a song for at least the second time this summer...fast becoming one of my favorites....I have a Hope, I have a Future....basically Jeremiah 29:11 and Romans 8:28 rolled into one song. One of the songs and scriptures that have ministered to me this summer as my only daughter and family move eight hours from us. I am fine with it...God is in it and all over it...however I am a little sad,but will more than survive. She has lived in town with me her whole life...41 years...I have precious memories of her and now my grandchildren. God has told me He has this and when people ask me how I am...I say I am fine and smile...had a young friend ask me at lunch...she lives in her mother's backyard!! Don't think most believe me that I am fine, but while part of my heart is going with them, I will more than survive for He has a purpose for me and I do have a Hope and He is all I need in the end....family is great, but God is the Only One who never ever leaves us. He made me whole over 45 years ago...and He will keep me whole. I am to focus on Him as I have for the most part. I did not make an idol of my children or my grandchildren, so God is free to do with them as He pleases. Do still have my son and his two boys here and I am helping to care for them....so my life will not be void of children and grandchildren. And never void of Him.He even gave me an unexpected blessing and joy to take the two to lunch and we sat and laughed and talked and gave me very special memories. God is so good. There are hard times ahead for us in this country and we need to focus on Him and His purposes and plans for us and not our own.

  5. Such a good word, Mary Lou. Eternal perspective makes the hard days bearable and the good days an added bonus. Life is what happens to us in the meantime. His eternal plan, and the Hope in it are bigger. Amen, amen to your words, especially "focus on Him and His purposes and plans for us and not our own.
