There is much work to be done. Reason. Resolution. Nehemiah said in Nehemiah 6:3 "I am doing a great work." What humility. We can accomplish much through the work of our minds and hands. God is looking at our hearts. Many people have accomplished much through their lives. The phenomenal feat of building the wall was accomplished in 52 days. Nehemiah 6:16. Half of them stood guard all day/all night with spears in hand, defending the workers against the enemies. The workers labored with their spears girded to their belts. They even slept with their clothes on, with spears girded to their belts. Hard Workers. Diligent. Committed. God is looking at their hearts. They worked hard to unbury themselves from their sins. You see, they married into this mess. "A sinful love leads to a sinful league" M. Henry. I read this story and this story reads me. God is looking at my heart. All the reason and resolution in the world cannot save us. Their hard work ethic is to be applauded. More than that, their repentant hearts are like a balm that soothes my sinful soul and makes me want to work harder building God's Kingdom, for His Glory. Much work to be done.
PRAYER FROM PSALMS
Psalm 104:23 - The sun rose this morning, O God. You didn't forget. You keep us all in motion. How can we ever forget or think that we are ever in this alone? The sun rose, and we all go out to work in fields and farms and factories and far. May we know this day, somewhere deep in our hearts, that this work that we do is a "great work" if we do it for You. Your Kingdom.
