Joshua led this group to an impressive conquer of 31 Kings.
Even the sun stops dead in its tracks just by Joshua's spoken word to God. My first thought was the words of Moses back in Deut 29:23 when he spoke of how Joshua would lead this group----where Moses could not go---and the Israelites would still reject the Christ they followed. Moses lack of success did not deter him. I am so struggling with success these days.
Even conquests and urgent need did not change the Israelites. Even two lights turned off in heaven---a sun stopped and a moon missed. Still, no way. What did the Israelites want more than the love of their God? Security. Personal Peace. Affluence. Comfort.
Till the day we die, may we seek first things, the Kingdom of God. Joshua 13:1 says Joshua was old---100 years old---yet God gave him work to do. Called. We are all called. Will we listen to what God is saying? Why do we this day deny the distance within us all, the impudence that removes us from situations, and the hubris that controls us so. O God, have mercy, there is hope in this new land of Canaan divided up among tribes. Will they take hope, take courage.
Psalm 129:1 Let Israel say...they have greatly oppressed me since my youth.
Psalm 124:1 A Song of Ascents, of David.
"Had it not been the LORD who was on our side," Let Israel now say ...
And now today, Yes, God,
Let all of us say ... You, O God, are on our side and we thank you from the bottom of our hearts. Help us wrestle war with what wars within---
