"Listen to The Empty Chair" I Kings 12-13; Luke 22:1-30

The surrendered one God used to speak His Word and breathe things into existence.
Yet, Jeroboam wasn't interested in following God fully.  He wasn't willing to take down the high places, the gods separating Jeroboam from God.  Yet, he thought what he was doing was enough.  I Kings 13:33 - even after all of this, Jeroboam didn't change his evil ways.  May the Word drop in our hearts and make us come alive to what is true and right and good and just and holy.  Make us alive today---a little more than yesterday!  Rehoboam listened to the Word of the Lord.  I Kings 12:24. But then, this son of Solomon, put a greater yoke on the people.
The kings listened to the Lord until it didn't work for them.

Amid all the noise of this celebrity society in which we live,
to Whom am I listening?
I find myself still trying to change people.
And I find people trying to change me.
I see the look of disapproval, of disdain.
And my default goes to defense.
Oh God! Help me to repent in the moment I hear.
May we all go back to the conclusion:
Ecclesiastes 12:13 - Fear God and Keep the Word.
Draw up that Empty Chair and listen to the Voice so Dear.

PHOTO:  The setting sun found me sitting alone under a bridge at dusk.  Waiting for the Empty Chair to be taken.  And it was.
