It's the shortest chapter in the Bible.
It takes a lifetime to learn, a preacher once said.
It talks about a little child.
It speaks to the man or woman I am becoming.
Its context is ambition, pride.
O Lord, my heart is not lifted up;
my eyes are not raised too high;
I do not occupy myself with things
too great and too marvelous for me.
But I have calmed and quieted my soul,
like a weaned child with its mother...
my hope is in the Lord. Psalm 131:1-3
This is all about David and his beautiful life experiences.
A shepherd boy. Called to fight a giant.
He wasn't looking to be known; he was taking care of his own.
"Is there not a cause?" Otherwise, he would not have gone.
This warrior who wouldn't lift his hand against his raging father-in-law.
David wasn't looking to be the king.
He was willing to do whatever God called him to do.
He didn't take matters into his own hands.
No vaulting ambition for David.
Be quiet oh my soul in these sunset years.
My God has me where he so desires.
May we find contentment in this calling.
This shortest psalm in the book
speaks volumes to me this morning.
I'm simply awestruck by what God is doing in me.
COME BOLDLY: Timeless Prayers
Dear Father,
"Search me, O God, and know my heart!
Try me and know my thoughts!
And see if there be any grievous way in me,
and lead me" . . . and may I be happy to do
whatever you call me to do. Psa 139:19-20
PHOTO: Mount Rainier upside down. Because.
God has turned my world upside down and I'm starry-eyed, so in love
with the One Who has set things right in my life.

Today's reading is especially poignant as we celebrate Memorial Day, I pray this verse over families who lost their sons, daughters, brothers, sisters, husbands and wives: The Lord upholds all who are falling and raises up all who are bowed down.
