Acts 20:9 "Find Comfort in the Hand of Providence" (July 16)

It took Paul 5 days to sail to Troas and he only stayed 7 days. It was worth the week for Paul. He crammed spiritual insight into late nights, even speaking to daybreak.  Easy to stay awake for entertainment but will we do it for Truth? Acts 20:9 One of the youth, sitting in an open window that probably looked more like an open door, succumbed to an overpowering sleep at midnight. Wonder where that kind of sleep came from? It was the Enemy of God disturbing and disrupting the societies as Paul delivered the Word of God.  Eutychus fell to his death...lifeless on the ground.  Paul's sermon came to life. It was the Living Word that healed this young son and the crowd was in awe, comforted by Providence. Paul was drawn by duty and desire to the will of God.  What draws me this day?  We don't know what will happen this day or next.  It is Enough to know that His Strength shall be equal to this day.  We are driven to duty only under the influence of His Spirit.  What controls or constrains you more than the Love of your God?

  1. Forgive me, but I've always thought Eutychus falling asleep during a sermon was funny. Of course, it wasn't, and Bev, you drew the spiritual lessons from it. Living Word that heals, the Enemy disturbing God's work, and what am I sleeping through when Truth is present? So good to think about this Saturday morning.

  2. Just drove in from Fort Worth. Such a great weekend for me where God spoke through my lifelong friends there. God is in this for me! You know nothing can touch us unless God allows us to fall asleep and fall out of a window. God doesn't always arrange our comfort or our children's comfort. I'm shaking my head over here! Different gospel than what most people say to me about how God will never allow more than we can bear...could Job bear losing 10 kids?
