Luke 20:46 "No Pretense in the Kingdom Program" (April 29)

Who were the Saducees and Scribes?  Saducees didn't believe in the resurrection.  Talk about a closed mind.  Is it evidence that we need or transformation?  Scribes interpreted Jewish law---they were the judges and lawyers of the day.  They conflicted with the Author of the law who claimed authority over it.   Who are the Pharisees and Saducees and Scribes of our day?

Jesus preached a Kingdom that turned everything inside out as He dealt with what was going on inside of their heart, not just their behavior. No pretense in His Kingdom Program.  "Beware of the Scribes who like to walk around in long robes, and love greetings in the marketplaces and the best seats in the synagogues and places of honor at feasts, who devour widows' houses, and for a pretense make long prayers.  They will recieve the greater condemnation."  Luke 20:46

Matthew Henry said that the scribes would receive the severest judgement for defrauding the poor widows, and for their abuse of religion, particularly of prayer, which they used as a pretense for carrying on worldly plans. Dissembled piety is double sin. Oh, God, keep us all from pride, ambition, covetousness, and every evil thing; and teach us to seek that honor which comes from You alone.

  1. Thank you so much for praying for my daughter Blair and her husband to find their Good God in the midst of devastation. Six inches of sudden rain yesterday caused the failure of the sewer lines and flooded their home. They had no insurance and lost just about everything. God woke Blair up with a bolt of lightning around 2am and she had water gushing inside her home. They had about 15 minutes to grab what they could before it was too late. Sewerage backed up into their home destroying all their furniture and pc's and belongings. They are staying at a hotel until they can find somewhere to live. Obviously, they couldn't go back and had to leave it all. She said all they could do was laugh and let it go---she said it's just "things." She has a great attitude about it but it will be a tough road for them to build back to where they were. Dependence on God is always a good place to be. And, I am so praying that God will intervene on their behalf and they see Him in this. Thanks so much for praying for them. They are doing well for losing so much. Doesn't mean it is easy though. Good perspective. Thank you God!

  3. Thanks for the update on Blair and Patrick, what a good attitude. Things are not important when you look at the eternal plan God has for us.

  4. Been up since 3 a.m. watching the royal wedding. It was so beautiful and the music--so, so pretty.

Can we even begin to imagine the Wedding of the Lamb? We all have been given an invitation.

And to be called sons of God, equal in status to the angels? I can't begin to grasp the fullness of His merciful Grace extended to commoners grafted in.

Blessing and honor, glory and power, riches and wisdom and strength be unto You, Who sits at the right Hand of God.
