Mark 15:26 "A Superinscription & Supernatural Darkness" (March 18)

Mark 15:26 - And the superinscription of the charge against him read,
"The King of the Jews."
Reigning Monarchs aren't Killed for being a King.

And when the sixth hour had come,
Supernatural Darkness came over the whole land until the ninth hour,
God painted privacy over the ghastly shameful day.

And His Voice cried out:  Eloi, Eloi, lema sabachtani?
My God, My God, why have You forsaken Me?
Dying men have no voice,
But this is The Christ Who died of His own free will.

With a loud cry, He uttered His last,
showing His own free supernatural power.
And the curtain of the temple was torn in two.
The very veil that grants us access to the very Presence of God.

And the women were Present in that Darkness.
Last ones at His Dark Death.  First ones at His Resurrection Life.
They knew.  What do I know this day?
Truly this wholly Holy Man was the Son of God.

In the cross of Christ I glory,

      Towering o’er the wrecks of time;

  1. Every morning I read the scripture and your post, and I don't know what to say. The crucifixion of Christ is so graphic, so painful,I don't know how to comment.
My heart is filled with deep conviction of spreading the message.
I need to be less, so He can be more.
I am humbled by His great sacrifice.

  2. Jan, I don't know what to say either. At least once during lent I like to watch The Passion of the Christ movie all by myself. Today might be the day. I know it's so graphic and is hard for most people to watch, but I need to see it that way. (Please don't judge me--I know you wouldn't.) By the way, does anyone know the significance of the "sour wine" or "wine vinegar"? I was just wondering.

  3. Silence seems very fitting. Such holiness and love. Music such as "In the Cross of Christ I glory" seems very right, too. Simply too big for mere words...

Angie, the Scripture cross reference for the sour wine is Psalm 69:21 to fulfill one of the many prophesies that were fulfilled during these few days. There are so many strange details included in these Scriptures like the man who flee naked Mark 14:52. We'll know one Day.

  4. Angie, I'll try to answer your question, some one else may have a better answer. In our ESV Study Bible..there is a foot note that says that the "wine vinegar" was the ordinary wine the soldiers drank and they gave it to Him, as best interpreted as seeking to prolong His suffering by quenching His thirst. I think I understand why you need to see how graphic it was. It helps to put in perspective how much He suffered for our sin, makes it more real is my bet.
We have had a yearly production at our church called The Passion Play and when we "nail""Jesus" on the cross...someone hits an anvil and it brings tears to my eyes...for that makes it pretty real.

All day yesterday the song that ran through my head was "My redeemer lives"...that was the only words but they ran through my head all day. Praise God He is alive!!!and I am forgiven. My heart is convicted along with Jan's about spreading the Word...the world grows darker by the minute.

  5. It is very unnerving, unnatural, unbelievable. And we are silenced. I think it's a beautiful move to watch The Passion, even alone. We are His. These people watching the Crucifixion were not, are never. Nothing would convince them. Not even a live Resurrection. Very few words here in Mark to describe the ghastly horror done to Him. Even God covered the earth with total darkness for three hours, covered our with privacy to suffer alone for you and for me and buy our redemption. Humbled with all of you! My love, Bev

  6. Yes, Silence in awe of the depth of Love Christ did just for you in and me.

Recently, I have been claiming, "by His strips, His pain, I am healed. Yes, I am the healed of the LORD...because I believe the painful account of what we read today is the Truth, The Way and Life itself.

This is a Song I must Sing, though not really silent enough. Praise the LORD for the Depth of LOVE He gave just for you and me to have LIFE. Help me remember more often.

    Sylvia
