Mark 11 "What Is Most Alive in You?" (March 8)
Jesus was in Bethany at the home of Lazarus and his two sisters, Mary and Martha. He asks two of His disciples to find Him a donkey in the next village. An Old Testament prophecy is about to be fulfilled in the synoptic gospels. They brought the colt to Jesus, a donkey that had never been sat upon. Kings rode horses into their victory march into the city, not on donkeys. Jesus had one thing on His mind---His Mission. Many showed up with palm leaves that they had cut down in wild fields, symbols of victory...the townspeople showed up to this Triumphal Entry, a steep descent into the Garden. How did they know to come to see the King of Glory? How do we know to come in moments when He beckons? How do we know that we know that we know it's Jesus ... 2 Tim 1:12 for I know whom I have believed, and I am convinced that he is able to guard until that Day what has been entrusted to me. The people were so drawn to Him....they came. What am I drawn to this day? What is more alive in me? Is it Him or is it this world that calls me? The citizens of Jerusalem left their daily duties to do what they could do for Him, on the road to crucifixion. You've left aside your daily duty, what then? They came to shout to a Suffering Servant riding a donkey not a Victorious Warrior riding a horse: Hosanna! Hosanna in the Highest! How did you know to come? What is more alive in you this day?

This morning I awoke with the realization that all the hurt in my past will remain there if I let it.
I resolve to remember the many happy times, to forget the painful ones. I know I loved to the best of my ability in the past, now am discovering a much deeper love.
Jesus is Love.
He is able to heal and restore.
Promises of rain and a cup of coffee with Palm Sunday unfolding with Pearls today slowly ignite my heart to feel a little anxious yet more alive, knowing what is to come. First, a parade and palms, and praise. And then, just as quickly, a revolt, a rejection, and a glorious resurrection. And finally, after all those years of inadequate atonements, a once-and-for-all redemption!
ReplyDeleteWhat is most alive in me on this rainy March morning? I love what Jan writes-"the greening of my spirit." Spring again in its full array brings an invitation--to return to life those dead places in my wintered soul. He comes on a lowly donkey and despite his humble entry into the Jerusalem of our hearts, we cannot help but proclaim Him as our salavation, not only for eternity but for this moment.
Hosanna. Jesus saves. Hosanna in the highest!

ReplyDeleteI spoke with Deborah last night. You know, she is in a tight place. But it is the LORD-of-Her-Tight-Places she so trusts and follows. She is holding fast to Him and is so beautiful to me, to all of us! She went to visit her mom so she doesn't have internet for a few days but she'll be back real soon. Thank you for praying for this sweet girl who adores her Messiah and leaves His Fragrance all over us. If you missed her prayer request, it was this past Sunday's post.
